Contract: Garden Extension and Internal Alterations, Rannoch Drive
Our main aim was to design a modern contemporary garden room extension to provide a new open plan kitchen and family space linked directly to a large garden. The clients brief also included forming a new downstairs WC/shower, utility room and back door cloaks area. Further alterations to the existing ground floor layout provided a new guest bedroom and open plan study/hub space linking and opening up the front hall to the new rear extension.
We used traditional materials; smooth white rendered walls and lead roof to the extension with a high level strip of patent glazing at the junction of new and old that allows light to penetrate the internal kitchen/family dining area. A large expanse of glazed cedar framed sliding doors provides direct access from the extension to the garden. A landscaped split level paved area continues the spaces outside. A further distinguishing feature of the extension is the chimney for the log burning stove.
The existing first floor dormers were clad in cedar shingles to complete the project.
