Contract: Garden Extension and Internal Alterations, Eastcote Ave
Our main aim was to design a modern contemporary garden room extension to provide a new open plan kitchen linked directly to a large rear garden and a new more formal dining area. The clients brief also included forming a new downstairs WC, utility room and back door cloaks area.
We used external cedar cladding to connect the projecting utility room with the garden and form a sheltered external hard landscaped area. All doors and windows were also cedar. A large expanse of glazing into the kitchen, with sliding timber doors allowed direct access to the garden. A high level strip of patent glazing connects the new extension roof with the existing house wall and allows light to penetrate the internal dining area.
Traditional materials were used: lead and slates to the roof, smooth render to the walls connected to the original house and supporting steel lintols are expressed and painted slate grey to match the soffits.
