Contract: Rutherglen Centre Regeneration.
Client: CAIRNDUFF (Rutherglen) Developments Ltd.
Contract description: Rutherglen Centre Regeneration
The Rutherglen centre is a legacy from the 1960s shopping centres that today now looks dated. To encourage the local community to support their own town centre shopping we need to inject a new heart back into the centre and make it a desirable destination in itself. The overall project proposes to upgrade the centre in different phases to encourage a new life and heart to the local community. Today Rutherglen’s growing population would rather use cars and public transport to travel into the main centre of Glasgow to shop rather than use the local centre’s amenties and facilities. The upgrading to Rutherglen Shopping Mall is necessary to provide an amenity fit for today’s community – a covered public place to meet, shop and socialise
The project will be phased. Phase 1 will be part of this bid:
Phase One : ugrade of the carpark, new carpark entrance to mall, twin lifts, new wcs
Phase Two: a new rear entrance on Greenhill Road
Phase Three: a new front entrance on Main Street with upgraded lighting and modernised canopy
Phase Four: a first floor café on Main Street above the centre’s entrance and linked to the car park.
